Serger Rental Required

Sunday Sept. 22, 2024, 12-2 p.m. @ Anthology Studio, 77 Suffolk St. W., Guelph

Become the boss of your serger in this 2-hour introductory class, where you'll learn the essentials of serging: how to thread your machine, how a serger works, how to adjust tension to achieve a perfect stitch, basic troubleshooting, and how and when to use a serger to level up your sewing practice. You'll leave with the confidence to serge up a storm!

If you're brand new to using a serger/overlocker, if you have a serger collecting dust because you're intimidated to thread it or worried you might break it (you're NOT alone!), or if it's been a while and you could just use a quick refresher, this class is for you.

If you don't have a serger but would like to learn, I have one serger available for rent at a cost of $20 for the class. (Select rental option at checkout.)

Level: Beginner. No prior experience using a serger is required!

Supplies:

  • Bring your serger and manual (very important!), as well as any accessories/tools that came with your machine. If you don't have your manual, most can be found online by searching the make and model - I recommend printing it off for your reference. Please ensure that your serger is in good working order and, if it hasn't been used in a while (e.g., more than a 5-10 years), recently serviced.
  • Four spools of serger thread in four different colours (or three if yours is a three-thread serger). Bright, contrasting colours work best - we want to be able to distinguish between the different threads in the finished stitch. It's helpful if they match the colour-coding on your serger threading guides (but not essential).
  • Basic sewing kit, if you have one: snips/scissors, seam ripper, etc.
  • Fabric and all other supplies will be provided.
