Florence Pants Class (Nov. 10 & 17, 2024)
Florence Pants Class (Nov. 10 & 17, 2024)
Two classes: Sunday afternoons from 12-4:30 p.m., Nov. 10 & 17, 2024
Beautiful, classic wide leg pants, perfect year-round. The Elizabeth Suzann Florence Pants are a sought-after classic for a reason: deceptively simple and stylishly elegant, they go just as well with a graphic tee and denim jacket as with a flowy silk top. Mine are in constant rotation in my wardrobe. (I just realized I'm wearing them while typing this class description!)
In this class, you'll learn garment sewing basics including simple fitting, cutting, tracing, and reading a pattern, seam finishing options, creating an elastic waistband, and how to insert (optional) pockets.
From the designer:
The Florence Pant is the easiest breeziest wide leg pant in the land! Use this classic, building-block pant as a jumping-off point for a variety of pant styles that will serve you well for years.
A dead simple wide leg silhouette with a high rise. The Florence has a slim waist that isn’t bulky around the midsection but also has ease and room to move comfortably, making these pants you’ll want to wear time and time again.
In a soft linen, these feel seasonless and relaxed. In a heavier canvas or wool, they are indestructible. Pair with a cashmere sweater and sneakers and wear for an entire weekend trip to the mountains, or wear them in the summer with a silk tank. Or, do what I do, and wear them all the time as very stylish pajamas that allow you to go from your couch to the real world without changing a thing.
Sewing Level: Beginner. Requires only the most basic sewing skills - if in doubt, take Sewing Machine Basics first to brush up on the fundamentals!
Recommended fabrics: Medium-weight woven fabrics with no stretch. Linen, cotton, hemp, in plainweaves or canvas will work well. Lighter fabrics will add more drape, and heavier fabrics will result in a more structured garment.
You'll need:
- Fabric of your choice - see detailed fabric requirements
- Fabric of your choice (see pattern requirements here)
- Beginning in August 2024, I will be carrying fabric! This pattern would be great in any of the woven fabrics I carry. For a first-time sewist, the cotton or cotton blends are more stable and a bit easier to work with than the 100% linen, but linen has that great drape and softness. To view fabric samples, come by during Friday Sewing Society (Fridays 12-3 starting Sept. 6) or email me to make an appointment.
- - 2” (5 cm) wide elastic cut to length for your waist
- Coordinating all purpose thread
- Sewing machine and basic sewing kit (machine rentals are available; send me an email to reserve one for the class at a cost of $40 for the session)
Sizing & Fit:
This pattern is offered in sizes XXS-4XL and three length options (Short, Regular, and Tall). See Elizabeth Suzann's detailed size guide and finished garment measurements for this pattern here.
CHOOSING YOUR LENGTH:
All sizes of the Florence Pant are available in three different lengths: Short, Regular,
and Tall. The length impacts the rise and the inseam of the pant.
SHORT: Designed for heights 5’4” (163cm) and below. Rise is approximately 3⁄4” (1.9
cm) lower than the “Regular” pattern and inseam is approximately 2” (5 cm) shorter
than the “Regular” pattern.
REGULAR: Designed for heights between 5’4” (163cm) and 5’8” (173 cm).
TALL: Designed for heights 5’8” (173cm) and above. Rise is approximately 1” (1.3 cm)
higher than the “Regular” pattern and inseam is approximately 3” (7.6 cm) longer
than the “Regular” pattern.
PLEASE SELECT YOUR PREFERRED LENGTH WHEN CHECKING OUT - so I can print the correct pattern size for you!
Cost: $185, including pattern, not including fabric or supplies
