Beginner II: Zipper Pouch (Jan. 26, 2025, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.)
Sunday Jan. 26, 2025, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. @ Anthology Studio, 77 Suffolk St. W., Guelph
If you've taken Beginner I: Sewing Machine Basics, take 20% off this class with code BEGINNER.
Conquer your fear of zippers by whipping up this simple but practical fully-lined zipper pouch in an afternoon. If you've taken Sewing Machine Basics and are ready for the next step, or you've sewn a little bit and want a simple project to get back into it, this class is for you.
With the pattern, zipper, and interfacing provided, sewing a zipper pouch will give you practice following a basic pattern, cutting with a rotary cutter and ruler, using interfacing, and using your zipper foot to attach a zipper with ease. And you'll have a cute project finished in a day! This confidence-building class will set you up for sewing success, and send you home with a fun and practical bag you'll be excited to use.
Sewing machine rentals are available on a first-come, first-served basis (choose the rental option when adding to cart).
Level: Beginner. Only very basic sewing experience required - this is a great next class after Beginner I: Sewing Machine Basics.
Supplies:
- You are welcome to bring your own fabric, or use fabric provided from the kids' sewing class basket (assorted quilting cottons - but no promises it'll be pretty!)
- If bringing your own fabric, you'll need:
- 1/4 m of main fabric for the outside of your pouch - quilting cotton, linen, or canvas (extra fabric for contrasting bottom as pictured), or two pieces at least 10" x 9"
- 1/4 m of lining fabric, lighter weight (quilting cotton or broadcloth), or two pieces at least 10"x 9"
- Coordinating thread
You'll also need:
- Sewing machine in good working order with new(ish) needle
- Zipper foot compatible with your sewing machine (it usually looks like a little ski - most machines come with this foot)
- Basic sewing kit - scissors, snips, seam ripper, straight pins, etc. (only if you have one - if not, I have lots of tools to share!)
I will provide: one nylon coil zipper, interfacing/fusible fleece, fabric (optionally), a printed copy of the pattern and instructions, as well as shared tools including cutting mats, rulers, rotary cutters, irons, ironing boards, and studio supplies (pins, scissors, seam rippers, etc.).
