Make friends with your sewing machine (or one of ours) in this 2-hour introductory class. In Sewing Machine Basics, you'll learn the essentials of machine sewing, including: how to thread your machine, wind a bobbin, sew a seam forward and in reverse, sew zig-zag and other specialty stitches, learn what all those stitches and feet are even for (and when to use them), and basic troubleshooting and maintenance. You'll leave with the confidence to get started sewing on your own, or sign up for one of our beginner level classes.
If you've never sewn before, or if it's been a while and you're ready to dust off your machine and get sewing again, this class is for you!
You can rent a sewing machine for the class for $20 (choose the rental option when checking out). When renting a machine, all other materials will be provided (thread, bobbin, etc.).
Level: Beginner - no prior sewing experience required! Recommended for ages 14+
Supplies:
- Sewing machine and manual, and any accessories that came with your machine
*Please ensure that your machine is in good working order and, if it hasn't been used in a while (i.e., 10+ years), recently serviced. It's also a good idea to have a new-ish needle in your sewing machine. If you don't have your manual, most can be found online by searching the make and model - I recommend printing it off to have handy for reference.
- At least one empty bobbin for your machine
- A good quality spool of thread
*Fabric and all other supplies will be provided
